HAITI
"I've a right to hope as pigs have to fly" ~ more or less from Alice in Wonderland
I spent a few weeks in Haiti in the summer of 2019. Witnessing injustice, horror and devastation with my own eyes made me feel uncomfortably powerless, and generated emotions, which were very difficult to process in a positive or constructive way. Yet, miraculously in Haiti the pain is neutralized by the joy that spontaneously radiates from the children’s smile and by the enthusiasm, love and dedication of all the people that commit their life to make the world a better place. And suddenly paradox finds its reason and balance, because every little gesture is not lost in chaos, but adds up creating a healing energy which is indestructible because based on pure love. I chose the Haitian pig as common element in all the images. Here the pigs are not dirty or associated with death or horror, but shine in gold glitters to remind us that when we have hope all things are possible and even pigs can fly.
